Faience green glazed Cobra amulet originally from a necklace. in the form a of rearing cobra, with a loop for the necklace to pass through. Green glazed Cobra or Uraeus Amulet (New Kingdom onwards). The cobra was associated with many gods and goddesses including Maat, Neith and Re as well as symbolising Southern Egypt, the sun and the king. The cobra was also called 'Weret Hekau', 'The Great Enchantress' who could assume the form of a human-headed cobra. The cobra also appeared in funerary imagery, for example as a fire spitting guardian within the Book of Gates, protecting each 'hour' of the underworld.
